Romania Celebrate First European Win in 24 Years
Stunning Victory Over Ukraine
emphatic display
Romania recorded their first victory at a European Championship in 24 years with a stunning win over Ukraine. The match, played at the Arena Nationala in Bucharest, saw Romania turn in a high-octane performance to win the country's first European Championship match in 24 years with an emphatic 3-0 victory.
The victory was all the more impressive as it came against a strong Ukrainian side that had won each of their previous two matches in the tournament. Romania, on the other hand, had lost each of their first two matches and had been widely expected to finish bottom of the group.
However, the Romanians started the match strongly and took the lead in the 12th minute when Nicolae Stanciu scored from the penalty spot. Ukraine pulled a goal back just before half-time, but Romania restored their lead in the second half through Florin Andone. The victory was sealed in the 89th minute when Dennis Man added a third goal.
The win was a huge boost for Romania, who are now third in the group and have a chance of reaching the knockout stages. It was also a special moment for the Romanian fans, who had waited 24 years to see their team win a match at a European Championship.
