Nightsleeper fans open-mouthed as 'most hated villain in soap history' returns to screens for BBC thriller

Evil Geoff Metcalfe is back – and this time he's on the hunt for Yasmeen

Coronation Street's most-talked about soap villain is set to return to screens in a brand new BBC thriller.

Ian Bartholomew, who played Geoff Metcalfe in Corrie, will reprise his role as the abusive character in the upcoming drama The Control Room.

The three-part series will follow Gabe, a call handler who becomes entangled in a dangerous case when she receives a call from a distressed woman who has been kidnapped.

As Gabe investigates, she soon discovers that the woman is being held captive by none other than Geoff.

The character of Geoff was a huge hit with Coronation Street viewers, with many branding him the "most hated villain in soap history".

His reign of terror on the cobbles saw him subject his wife Yasmeen to physical, emotional and psychological abuse before being found guilty of coercive control and attempted murder.

Bartholomew's performance was highly praised, with many viewers calling for him to win awards for his portrayal of the abusive character.

Now, it seems that viewers will get to see a whole new side to Geoff as he makes his return to screens in The Control Room.

The drama is set to air on BBC One later this year.
